What is Group Health Insurance?
There are two main groups that can qualify for group health insurance: association group - such as an alumni group or a professional organization or society; this association must have by-laws and, consist of at least 100 members and be organized for a reason other than buying insurance. The second type is employer-sponsored group health.
The underwriting for group health insurance is less restrictive then individual insurance, because on each anniversary contract, the premium rate, conditions of the contract and the benefits provided can be adjusted. However group health is unique, because every eligible member of the group must be covered regardless of physical conditions, age, sex or occupation. Cost of the policy will vary by ratio of males to females and average age of the group.
